Since listing my goals for 2012 kept them more present in my mind, I decided I'd do the same for 2013. I know there is no way that I can achieve all of them, but having them written gives me something to shoot for and a way to keep myself somewhat accountable. So, here goes in no particular order:
1. Maintain current weight (or lose weight) - losing weight was a big goal of mine in 2012 and I have felt so much better since I lost it. So, I really have a goal of maintaining my weight during this year. With the new way we are eating, I haven't had much fluctuation, so I don't think I'll have too much trouble ending the year with approximately the same weight that I begin it.
2. Finish girls' scrapbooks - I had Ephraim's first year scrapbook done (except his birthday page) the night before he turned 1. I have gotten as far as purchasing scrapbooks and printing some pictures for the girls, but otherwise, they have nothing. I am aiming to have at least Tabi's book done by her 3rd birthday (July) and hopefully Joie's done by her 2nd (October) or Christmas at the latest.
3. Make a quiet book (or two or three) - My best friend, Rachel, and I decided to make quiet book pages together in order to make quiet books for our kids. Rather than make each page ourselves, we are going to make two copies of each page and share them with each other. That should make it easier. In order to not let this drag us down and overwhelm us at the end of the year, we have set a goal of one page (2 copies of it - one for each of us) each month. That will give us each 24 pages by the end of the year!
4. Maintain a three-day-a-week Tot School - Even though our "school" only lasts about 45 minutes or an hour, I have some structures in place (hopefully) that will keep me faithful to this schedule. I don't know what will happen when Joie stops taking a morning nap, but for now, I plan to only include the older two kids. Perhaps around April or May (when she's 18 months or so) Joie will begin to join us as well.
5. Declutter, Minimalize, Organize - We're starting off the year right - with a 30 day Decluttering Bootcamp. I worked my butt off these last 10 weeks to remove items from our home that either we were not using or we did not want - this led to many items leaving the home and around $800 entering it! We sold what we thought (or knew) had value and donated a whole lot more. (There is more we would like to sell and we'll try, but do not want to keep it forever in order to sell it for a few bucks.) We are trying to be much more intentional with items that enter the house and as we focus on keeping the items we love, we will find permanent homes for them within the house so they can be treasured.
6. Be intentional about house upgrades/updates - We have lived in this house for over 18 months and still have no curtain rods on the majority of the windows (even though we bought them all within about 2 months of moving in) and over half of the house has not been painted. We have planned a room each month to work on finishing up - this first month (if we can manage much with the bootcamp mentioned above) we hope to finish up a few things in both kids rooms which are mostly done and the living room and foyer (also mostly done). Then it's on to the dining room in February which we bought paint for months ago (like last May) and in which we have done nothing. Kitchen, Office, Bathrooms, Master Bedroom, and Outdoors should round out our year nicely.......I think I few of those might take more than one month!
7. Go on (at least) ONE bike ride - We have purchased a trailer for two little ones and a bike seat for the third, but have yet to take a bike ride. Ed does not have a bike - this is a problem. I have a bike which I got for my.....14th(?) birthday which needs new tubes in the tires and possibly some other items. We also only have a helmet for one kid, but helmets for the girls are already planned. Hopefully we can have ONE successful bike ride this spring, followed by lots and lots more. I would love to be able to ride with the kids to the park....it's just a bit too far for walking, especially with a double stroller.
8. Buy a grill/Plant Herbs - These are really Ed's, but since they will help out a lot in cooking and menu-planning, I'm all for it!
9. Can more - Anyone who followed the blog this last year or talked to me during the summer/fall months, may possibly think that I'm crazy with this goal, since we canned over 6 gallons of jam. However, jam is about all we did. This year I'd like to venture into more applesauces (trying flavored ones even), tomatoes in a variety of forms, bbq sauce and more.
Although I'm sure there will be more goals cropping up as I get further into the year, these are the ones I've got right now.
