Our plan was to baptize Rafaela just a few hours after she was born. (There are perks to being married to my pastor!) However, we also wanted the kids to be present for the baptism. Since she was born at 9:20pm, we decided that it would be more logical to wait until the morning. This also allowed us to facetime and skype with my dad and Ed's parents and sister so they could see the baby and witness her baptism. The baptism took place on Thursday morning about 8:15am - she was almost 11 hours old.
Singing the baptismal hymn we picked out for Rafaela - "Dearest Jesus We are Here". Each of our kids has their own baptismal hymn chosen for them and we sing them every year after when we celebrate their baptismal birthday.
The "Big 3" trying to sit still.
Receiving a blessing and this was the first time Rafaela's name was revealed.
She didn't mind the water one bit!
Rafaela's candle being lit.
A prayer over the newly baptized.
A quick kiss from Daddy.
Then on Sunday, we did a public recognition of baptism at church as well as the enrollment of sponsors (for one of her four sponsors).
Getting Rafaela dressed in the family baptismal gown (that I and her siblings were all baptized in). We chose not to use this at home.
Snapping up the back.
Trying to get her shoes on her feet - she kept wiggling them and jerking them away from me.
The shoes, bib, and bonnet were made by my mom specifically for Rafaela - they are hers to keep.
All family present at church - the six of us, my mom, and Ken, a friend of Ed's from college and Rafaela's sponsor.
Just the six of us.
Can you tell the kids had other things on their mind?
"Uncle" Ken with Rafaela - the godfather.
Another of "Uncle Ken" and a nice shot of Rafaela's banner.
The cake provided to celebrate after church at a potluck.
