Apple Picking

Ed and I have been talking about going apple picking for a couple of years now.  We put it off three years ago because we had a baby......then last year, we had a toddler and a baby.......this year, two toddlers and a baby.  So, we decided that this is our year!

We found an orchard about 45 minutes away that had apples for about 65¢ per pound.  Since we've been paying roughly $1.40 per pound in the store, we figured this was a win-win.  We get the experience of apple picking that we both remember from our childhoods and want to pass on to our kids and a good deal that should lead to lots of canning and drying for the winter months.

We started by picking some Macintosh apples.  Of course we had to taste one - how I've missed apples right off the tree - so much better!  Yum!

Quickly drop off the full tub at the car, grab an empty one, and head to the Jonathan apples.

Deposit the Jonathans in the van, hop in, and drive a bit back to the Gala apples.

Here's our haul:  It totaled right about 70 lbs which cost us $42.  Awesome!

The kids made it a good portion of the way home, but crashed about 15 minutes or so from home.  Oh well.  Isn't Ephraim the cutest?

The girls both woke up when we pulled in the driveway.

Here are the apples one more time - so excited to start some applesauce and dried apples this week!  We're pretty sure we're going to back again in about two weeks.  They'll have some other varieties of apples ready then.

The girls crashed during nap time and didn't even wake up when I came upstairs.  A great day!
