Fix-it Friday: Oh the Floors!

Yesterday we started getting bids to have the floors refinished at the house. The downstairs is red oak and the upstairs (and stairs themselves) are fir. While the red oak should refinish beautifully, it was suggested that due to the nature of the fir (and some stains that won't buff out), we might want to cover it instead of refinishing. Carpet is out - we just don't like it and painting wood isn't really our thing. So, I think we're leaning toward putting a floating hardwood over it. We don't want laminate, but the problem is that we're not sure exactly what we do want.

We were excited to see that Lumber Liquidators is having a huge end of season clearance blowout sale and have great floors for a very affordable amount right now and for two more days. Unfortunately, we don't know enough of what we want right now. So, I think we're going to get the downstairs done and leave the upstairs for next year when Lumber Liquidators has their next end of season clearance blowout extravaganza. Hopefully by then we will know what we want and have saved enough to make it less of a stress. The only thing I don't know about is the stairs. They are in pretty poor shape and really need to be replaced . . . . maybe we need to get some bids on that as well.

We have one month remaining on our current lease and then we have to be in the house with all of our junk. Guess we need to kick this floor stuff in high gear and get it done! It will be so nice to actually live in the house that we now own . . . . oops, I think I mean OWE (on).
